Hi, Welcome to New Birmingham
This website, and the broader project, will be divided into Out of Character sections (with information for you), and In Character sections (part of the story). You can tell which section is which from the tags in the corner, which look like this:
New Birmingham is an interactive story. It's based in a fictional place, in the year 2053. It follows the journeys of two young people impacted by mental health - Craig, a young carer, and Charlie, who struggles with a mental health condition.
Capitalism has continued as the dominant global economic concept. Healthcare in the UK has been privatised, medicines are expensive and rare.
In 2037, there was an outbreak of zombie-like creatures called "Degenerates". They are dangerous and infectious, but treatments are available. They act with a hive mentality, attacking only with overwhelming numbers unless provoked. There is a delicate coexistence with Degenerates and humans - most major towns have small populations, hiding in remote and abandoned locations. There are forecasts of large-scale Degenerate movements broadcast daily, a large security presence and neighbourhood shelters
You can experience New Birmingham as a PC game, an interactive exhibition and through this website. Each format looks at the story from a different angle, but not all the pieces are necessary to enjoy the story.
The Story has been developed by Jasmine Gardosi & Carl Sealeaf, with the incredible support of Tom Peel (Sound Engineer), Andy Campbell (Virtual Environment Desiner) and Ebrahim Nazier (Set Designer).

Our Story
New Birmingham has always had two things at its heart: Safety and Community. In early 2017, when we were granted our first planning permission for an area the size of a super-maket, we never dreamed that our vision would take us to the point where we're now the largest property development and maintenance company operating in the country today.
We pioneered a new vision for what a development company could be: a self-sufficient community. We provided our residents with their own private security, green spaces, and the means to create their own power.
During the terrible events of 2037, we were one of the few in a position to accept newcomers into our family. When the rest of the world looked out,
we looked at ourselves and said "How can we help? What can we do?"
That attitude of giving, of care, is at the centre of everything we do. We continue to strive for better, for our family.
